NAEgypt is not related to any addiction treatment organization or any other organization.
The NA fellowship sprung from the Alcoholics Anonymous fellowship in the late forties, where its first meeting was held in California, Los Angeles in the U.S. in the early fifties. The NA fellowship began as a small American movement, which grew into becoming the oldest and largest organization of its kind. The NA fellowship published its first book, entitled “The Basic Text”, which contributed to the great growth of the fellowship. In a few years, NA groups were formed in Brazil, Columbia, Germany, Switzerland, India, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand and the U.K. Today, the NA fellowship is solidly established in most American continents, Western Europe, and Australia. The newly established groups and NA communities are scattered in Africa, Eastern Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
Our first meeting was conducted on the 24th of September 1989 in a school in Heliopolis with members.
For the next eight years after the birth of Narcotics Anonymous in Egypt the fellowship was comprised of fifteen members still using the same location for conducting meetings, the number of attendance started to increase gradually and slowly reaching this day with a number of 26 groups in 10 governorates holding 90 meetings per week.
